If real estate is your profession, then politics is your business. The Association works diligently to address legislative and regulatory issues affecting the real estate industry on the local, state and national levels.

For more information about MAAR’s Governmental Affairs program, please contact Chris Connolly.

Candidate Interview Process

The Association carefully interviews every candidate running for public office who has the ability to affect our local real estate industry. Interviews are conducted by a panel of three to seven REALTORS® who have undergone extensive training in conducting candidate interviews. Their recommendations are considered and approved by the Governmental Affairs Committee and the MAAR Board of Directors. Interviewing candidates is one of the most critical roles of MAAR's Governmental Affairs Program.

Lobbying

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and Tennessee REALTORS® employ full-time lobbyists, who monitor legislation at the national and state levels affecting the real estate industry. In addition, members of MAAR's Governmental Affairs Committee and Governmental Affairs Director Chris Connolly track legislative and regulatory issues within Shelby, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, McNairy and Tipton Counties.
