Symbols of Professionalism
The terms REALTOR® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® are registered, collective service marks adopted by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and are a protected trademark and logo. As such, they may only be used by members of NAR. The use of the REALTOR® term or logo by non-members is strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, the Association is pledged to the letter and spirit of the U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity. Member firms are encouraged to display the equal opportunity logo in their offices and on official stationery.
The Association offers a wide variety of real estate courses and seminars covering a multitude of topics, including many courses which lead to professional designations such as ABR, CRS, GRI and more. In addition to course offerings, the MAAR Education Foundation funds scholarships for members pursuing their professional development goals.
Members adhere to the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. The Association enforces compliance and conducts grievance hearings for conflicts among members and consumers regarding Code of Ethics violations. Arbitration hearings are also conducted for conflicts arising between association members and member firms.
As an added benefit, members have access to Tennessee REALTORS® Legal & Ethics Hotline, through which members can solicit guidance from qualified attorneys on issues relating to ethics and legal matters.
The Association cultivates and maintains relationships with elected officials and tracks legislative and regulatory issues affecting the Memphis-area real estate industry. The REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is one of the nation's largest and most influential political action committees. RPAC supports candidates—local, state and federal—who are sensitive to matters of homeownership and property rights with voluntary funds raised by the membership.
Additionally, members are given a chance to meet with elected officials at the local and state levels in person during the Association's annual Political Soiree and the Tennessee REALTORS®'s annual Day on the Hill.
The Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® understands the importance of making connections and having a well-established business network. The Association holds several membership luncheons, fundraisers, networking events and political events throughout the year, as well as annual events such as the Board of Directors Installation & Reception, Member Appreciation & Affiliate Expo, the Annual Meeting & Residential Summit and the Honors & Awards Luncheon.
The Association circulates various newsletters to keep members apprised of news and events at MAAR. All members receive the Weekly REALTOR®, a weekly newsletter comprised of Association, state and national news; the Course Monitor, the monthly education newsletter; and the MAAR This Month, a monthly events calendar. Commercial members also receive the Commercial Connection, a quarterly newsletter covering issues relevant to commercial real estate. Broker members receive monthly market statistic reports and membership reports.
The Association also maintains social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Flickr, which serve as additional ways for members to stay informed of Association industry news and events.
The Association coordinates volunteer and fundraising opportunities with several local organizations, including Clean Memphis, Youth Villages, Make-A-Wish, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis and Soulfull Memphis, to name a few. Members can help make a difference in our community through hands-on work with our partner organizations.
Additionally, members may become involved by volunteering to serve on a committee. The Community Development Committee and the Fair & Affordable Housing Committee both incorporate outreach, community improvement and hands-on volunteer opportunities into their agendas.
Listing Services & Market Statistics
The Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® owns and operates Paragon, a powerful, web-based Multiple Listing Service (MLS) built by Black Knight. Paragon is a computerized inventory of residential listings, available to members online 24 hours a day. At any given time, there are more than 9,000 listings in the MLS.
The Association also maintains an online tax database called MAARdata that contains information on all parcels of property in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton counties from public sources and area appraisers. MAARdata gives members exclusive access to the most extensive compilation of public records and physical property data in the Mid-South.
Using data from Paragon, the Association tracks home sales in the Memphis area each month. Official market statistics reports and MLS sales reports are then compiled and distributed monthly to members and local media.
