The Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® (MAAR) is one of Tennessee's largest local REALTOR® associations, encompassing Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, Hardin, Hardeman and McNairy Counties. Founded by eight charter members on November 1, 1910, MAAR celebrated its centennial in 2010. MAAR's focus is serving and representing real estate professionals as well as providing real estate information to the general public.
Approximately 4,100 REALTORS® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATES® specializing in every aspect of the real estate profession—including residential, commercial, industrial, property management and appraisal services—hold membership in MAAR, representing approximately 400 firms. MAAR is governed by a President and a Board of Directors who are elected annually by the membership. Association members participate on various committees and task forces that meet regularly to handle issues relevant to the association and the real estate industry.
MAAR has operated a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for its members since 1954. The MLS is a computerized inventory of residential listings, and it is available to members online 24 hours a day. At any given time, there are more than 9,000 listings in the MLS. In addition, MAAR maintains an online tax database called MAARdata that contains information on all parcels of property in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton counties from public sources and area appraisers.
