As an organization, MAAR promotes the value of community, and now more than ever it is important that we speak out against anything that threatens that fabric, including the senseless and tragic death of George Floyd. All of our neighbors within our communities should feel safe and free from discrimination.

As longtime champions of fair housing, principles such as equality, inclusion and acceptance are among a REALTOR®’s most cherished values. Tap into that as you reflect on this shocking event. Ask yourselves how you can use your connections, skills and experience to bring about positive change. Work to understand how unconscious bias may affect your own judgments. MAAR will continue to be the leader locally in protecting homeownership for every person and building communities based on diversity, inclusivity and social equity.

Let’s commit to an intentional and unwavering effort to view our fellow humans in an equal light, and to reaffirm our pledge to the principles of fairness, compassion and acceptance. The National Association of REALTORS® is committed to leading the way on policies that address racial injustice and that build safe and inclusive communities. Building the future begins with equal access to housing and opportunity for all.

Our deepest sympathies are with the Floyd family and all other families who have experienced, understand and feel this pain and grief.
