On March 23, City of Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland signed a Civil Emergency Proclamation and Executive Order regarding a Safer at Home directive and closure of all non-essential services and businesses.

This builds on the State of Emergency declared March 19, which temporarily shut down bars, on-premise consumption at restaurants and places of entertainment and recreation. At the same time, President Trump and the CDC recommended limiting all public gatherings at ten people and social distancing at 6 feet.

As you know, MAAR fought to make sure real estate was included on the list of what are called "essential businesses" in the Mayor’s order, which allows you to continue to do business, while adhering to the guidelines from the CDC and otherwise outlined in the Mayor’s order.

As the news and impact of COVID-19 continue to evolve rapidly, MAAR has made the difficult decision to remove all future open house and tour events from Paragon MLS and to temporarily disable the ability to add or modify open houses and tours in the Paragon system. This is a temporary measure to minimize the spread of the virus and honor government guidelines regarding the virus.

Until at least April 7, the same expiration date as Mayor Strickland’s order—unless otherwise extended—you will not be able to add or modify open house or tour information in Paragon. MLS staff will contact you to inform you that your open houses have been removed from the Paragon system. We will also take reasonable steps to limit the distribution of any existing open house information to public websites and apps, including REALTOR® websites, e.g., Syndication, IDX and VOW sites.

During this period, MAAR discourages members from conducting open houses and tours and we discourage the use of open house or tour information available from any source as MAAR will not facilitate the distribution of this information. We recommend that members contact listing agents directly for the latest information specific to viewing a property.

You may post a virtual tour to your listing by using the Branded Virtual Tour and Unbranded Virtual Tour fields in Paragon to add a link to your virtual tour provided by a service of your choice. You may also post URLs within the REALTOR® Remarks field—not Public Remarks—in Paragon if necessary. Members have been hosting virtual open houses on social media, using Zoom video conferencing and other virtual marketing resources during this unprecedented time.

We will provide updates and communicate as more information becomes available. Please visit and the Shelby County Department of Health for the latest updates about and best practices for avoiding the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
