September is REALTOR® Safety Month. What better time to peruse the National Association of REALTORS® 2019 Member Safety Report?
A survey was sent to members across the nation to assess their feelings of safety, their experiences and the precautions they take to protect themselves. More than 2,600 responses were gathered and compiled in the report below by the the National Association of REALTORS® Research Group.
Highlights from the report:
- 33% of REALTORS® experienced a situation that made them fear for their personal safety or safety of their personal information.
- 44% of members choose to carry self-defense weapons.
- 53% of members use a smartphone safety app to track whereabouts and alert colleagues in case of an emergency.
Understanding the issues they face and the concerns that they have is the first step in developing resources to keep real estate professionals safe on the job. Use the results of this report as a jumping-off point to developing safety resources or programs for yourself and within your brokerages.
While this month helps remind us of the importance of REALTOR® Safety, NAR has also developed materials for use throughout year, which can be accessed at nar.realtor/safety.
