The Tournament began in 2011 as a way for the MAAR Commercial Council to give back to the community. It was decided that the Tournament would donate a significant portion of the proceeds from the tournament to Make-A-Wish® Mid-South.
The goal in the first year was to raise enough money to be able to grant one child’s wish. The average cost of a wish at that time was $5,000 but has now increased to over $8,000. Through the hard work of the Golf Tournament Committee and the support of sponsors, the Council was able to donate $17,000 to Make-A-Wish®, enough to grant three wishes.
As of 2018, the Council’s total donation to Make-A-Wish® in was $70,000, bringing the eight-year total in donations to $320,000.
Looking forward to 2019 and the 9th annual tournament, the Commercial Council hopes to surpass its goals yet again and continue to help grant wishes for local Make-A-Wish® kids.
Make-A-Wish® Mid-South grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. If you know of a child who is critically ill, please visit midsouth.wish.org.
The 9th Annual Commercial Council Make-A-Wish® Golf Tournament will be held May 23 at Windyke Country Club. Registration and lunch begin at 11:15 a.m. Shotgun begins at 12:30 p.m. Dinner will follow immediately after tournament play.
