The POWERS That Be
Political Advocacy & RPAC:
If real estate is your profession, then politics is your business.
Strength in numbers… one of MAAR’s greatest benefits. Membership in MAAR comes with an entire network of real estate professionals from across the nation who are plugged into securing the protection and advancement of the real estate profession. Through political advocacy and lobbying, REALTORS® are able to communicate with and support political candidates and elected officials who have the ability to affect your industry.
MAAR’s Governmental Affairs committee and the MAAR Board of Directors have created a diligent interviewing process that singles out the candidates running for public office who understand and support REALTOR® issues – such as homeownership, property rights, taxes and the economy, growth management, technology and the environment – and offers them as recommendations for REALTOR® support.
Additionally, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Tennessee Association of REALTORS® (TAR) employ full-time lobbyists who monitor legislation affecting the real estate industry at both the national and state levels. Members of MAAR's Governmental Affairs Committee and MAAR Governmental Affairs Director Aubrie Kobernus also track legislative and regulatory issues within Shelby, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, McNairy and Tipton Counties.
The
REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is one of the nation's largest and most influential political action committees and supports candidates at every level – local, state and federal. MAAR, TAR and NAR are working to build the future by putting RPAC dollars in places that will help advance the interests of the real estate industry. RPAC's strength is derived from the contributions it receives from MAAR's membership and the encouragement provided by MAAR's brokers. It is the only political group in the country organized for REALTORS
®, run by REALTORS
® and exists solely to further issues important to REALTORS
®.
Visit the
REALTOR® Action Center to find out about issues affecting the real estate industry, donate to RPAC and respond to Calls for Action. There's also an app called "REALTOR Action Center" in the App Store that allows you to see news and respond to calls for action right from your smartphone. NAR has also created a
Home Owner Action Center that you can encourage your family, friends and clients to check out to stay up to date on legislative issues that will affect their pocketbook
