Did You Know?
In medieval times, tradition said that women could only propose marriage in leap years. In the 13th century, Queen Margaret of Scotland supposedly issued a law that required fines be levied if a man refused a woman's proposal in leap year. Feeling that put men at too much risk, the tradition was tightened in some places restricting female proposals to the modern leap day, February 29.
