NAR Ethics Requirement
As a member of NAR, all REALTORS® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATES® must complete the mandatory NAR Quadrennial Ethics Requirement once every four years, with no exemptions. There are several ways to comply with this requirement:
- NAR's “Quadrennial REALTOR® Ethics Training” online course (either the residential or commercial track)
- NAR's “New Member Code of Ethics Orientation” online course
- Live classroom settings, including:
- “Professional Standards in the 21st Century”
- “Ethical Dilemmas in Everyday Practice”
- GRI 1: “Professionalism in Real Estate”
- Oliver Frascona's “Code of Ethics Training”
- SIOR Ethics
- MAAR's “Ethics Home Study Course” available in the REALTOR® Store
- Annual Training for Grievance Committee members
- Annual Training for Professional Standards Committee members
The NAR Quadrennial Ethics Requirement is not a TREC requirement. Therefore, it will not affect your real estate license; only your REALTOR® or REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® membership. You may, however receive 3 hours of CE credit for completing any live TREC approved ethics class at MAAR. If you have taken either NAR Ethics course online after July 1, 2003, and would like to receive 3 hours of CE credit, you must fax proof of completion to MAAR's Education Manager at 761-4003. If you took either NAR Ethics course online prior to July 1, 2003, you have satisfied NAR's requirement, but are not eligible for CE credit unless you re-take either course and fax proof to MAAR's Education Manager, as TREC approval was not obtained before this date.
The deadline for completing NAR's Quadrennial Ethics Requirement is December 31, 2004. The next four year period begins January 1, 2005, with a deadline of December 31, 2008.
Please direct any questions to MAAR's Education Manager at (901) 818-2421 or nlundquist@maar.org.
