Education Requirements for Brokers & Affiliate Brokers
To make your education requirements easier to understand, please find the licensing group to which you belong.
Affiliate brokers licensed on or after 7-1-05: You are required to complete 16 hours of continuing education (4 of which being the mandatory “TREC Core Course”) 60 days prior to the expiration date of your license.
Affiliate brokers licensed prior to 7-1-05: After December 2006, you were issued a license lasting anywhere from 6 to 18 months. Because this license is less than 2 full years, you are exempt from continuing education for that renewal.
At the expiration of your 6- to 18-month license, and upon renewal, you will be issued a full 2-year license. You will be required to have 16 hours of continuing education (4 of which being the mandatory “TREC Core Course”) 60 days prior to the expiration date of your 2-year license, and for all renewals thereafter.
Brokers licensed prior to 7-1-05: After December 2006, you were issued a license lasting for exactly 1 year. At the expiration of this 1-year license, and upon renewal, your license will be issued to last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. At the expiration of the 6- to 18-month license, and upon renewal, you will be issued a full 2-year license.
Brokers licensed before January 1, 2005 are exempt from continuing education. Brokers licensed on or after January 1, 2005 are not exempt from continuing education, and must complete 16 hours (4 of which being the mandatory “TREC Core Course”) to renew their licenses after they’ve completed their 120 post-broker hours. You must complete your 120 post-broker hours by the 3rd-year anniversary of receiving your broker license.

Afterwards, you are required to complete 16 hours of continuing education (4 of which being the mandatory “TREC Core Course”) 60 days prior to the expiration date of your 2-year license, and for all renewals thereafter.
