Nonprofit Credit Counseling Organizations

If you need help understanding or repairing your credit, there are several nonprofit agencies in the area. Contact one of them for help.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS) is a program of Family Service Agency, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to build safe, caring, emotionally and financially healthy communities by providing services and affordable housing. CCCS provides counseling in several areas: budget, debt management, credit report review, mortgage default and rent delinquency. The agency also offers consumer education workshops on a variety of subjects, including consumer rights, values and attitudes on money issues, budgeting, debt, credit fundamentals and home buying. All services are free.

Memphis Consumer Credit offers counseling that fits each individual’s needs. MCC will review credit reports and offer suggestions for improving credit and discuss budgeting. If MCC cannot meet the needs of an individual, they will refer an individual to other agencies/companies. There is no cost for the services.


Once you know how you spend your money and how much you have, you are on your way to buying a home. Next, you need to meet with a REALTOR® who will assess your desires and needs and point you in the direction of a lender who will loan you the money to buy a home.
